Air Force inactivates response group

LAKEHURST, N.J., June 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force inactivated a contingency response group as part of a restructuring move to consolidate a National Guard refueling wing.

The U.S. Air Force inactivated the 816th Contingency Response Group five years after it was created. The move is part of a force restructuring effort that moves response capability to the New Jersey Air National Guard's 108th Air Refueling Wing, the U.S. Air Force said.

"The reorganization of the contingency response wing reduced us from three contingency response groups to two," said U.S. Air Force Col. Rich Anderson. "There will be no net loss in manpower, as the airmen once assigned to the 816th CRG will be building capability in the two remaining groups."

The expertise of the 816th CRG included the logistical support of humanitarian aid supplies and war materials.

Its last deployment was to Bahrain.
