WASHINGTON, July 20 (UPI) -- Bar-S foods is recalling approximately 372,684 pounds of chicken and pork hot dogs and corn dogs because the products may have been adulterated with listeria monocytogenes, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The products were produced between July 10-13 and were shipped to retail locations nationwide, the agency said in a release Tuesday.
They bear establishment number "EST. P-81A" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Bar-S Foods, based in Altus, Okla., notified FSIS on Tuesday it was recalling the products.
No confirmed reports of illnesses or adverse reactions have been due to consumption of these products, according to the federal agency. It has not received test results of samples but "due to recurring listeria species issues at the firm, it has decided to remove the products from commerce as a precautionary measure," FSIS said in a release.
Food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which is an infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and newborns. Symptoms are fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by gastrointestinal condition.
Consumers who purchased these products are urged to throw them away or return them to where they bought them.
Consumers with questions about the recall can call the Bar-S Foods Consumer Hotline at 888-965-6134.
