Xbox One wins holiday video game sales, price cut to $349

By Matt Bradwell

SEATTLE, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Microsoft has cause to celebrate as the tech giant's Xbox One video game console successfully outsold rival Sony's PlayStation 4 in December.

"We are thankful for all the excitement for Xbox One this holiday and proud to offer more fans the amazing games lineup, Xbox Live gaming community, and continual innovation that Xbox One fans have come to enjoy," Mike Nichols, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Marketing for Xbox said in an official statement.

The sales victory was calculated by the independent NPD Group, however Microsoft has not yet announced the formal sales totals for the month. Microsoft also won 2013's holiday sales season, unseating the PS4 after being outpaced by Sony from the time of the PS4's launch. The PS4 resumed selling better than the Xbox One sales after December 2013, but Microsoft saw a resurgence in sales as 2014 drew to a close, aided by a "temporary" $349 MSRP, which has been reintroduced on the hells of the sales announcement.
