DETROIT, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- General Motors will be showing off the concept for the Chevrolet Bolt at the Detroit auto show on Monday.

The company plans to debut the electric car as a competitor for Tesla's Model 3, both of which are scheduled to arrive in 2017, according to The Wall Street Journal. Tesla announced the Model 3 in July of 2014 as a more affordable version of what they currently offer, only costing $35,000. The new Chevrolet Bolt would cost less than that, at $30,000.

The Bolt is designed as a hatchback vehicle, and it will be able to drive four times as far as the Chevrolet Volt currently can.

Both the Bolt and the Model 3 are expected to travel around 200 miles per charge. One feature the Tesla will have that the Bolt may not is self-driving capability, as Tesla founder Elon Musk has announced Tesla cars will all have that ability in the next few years.

The Tesla might also have the strange feature of a charger that extends from the wall by itself like a "metal snake," as Musk has tweeted.

Meanwhile, Michigan, where GM has its headquarters, has banned Teslas from being sold.
