CHICAGO, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Donald Trump loves the idea of his name on Chicago's second-tallest building, but city preservationists say they aren't so keen on it.
Trump this week confirmed plans to hang 20-foot-tall, back-lit letters spelling out "Trump" on the side of the 92-story, North Wabash Avenue hotel that bears his name.
Trump told Crain's Chicago Business the letters, which would be hung on the 16th story, would complement the architecture of the skyscraper and "the people in the building love it as an identifier."
But Ward Miller, executive director of Preservation Chicago, told the newspaper the addition of large-scale graphics to the lower segment of major buildings was "a slippery slope."
"It has the potential to be quite ugly," Miller said.
Trump said the letters would not block any views from the windows and would already be in place if not for the harsh winter weather. "We think it is going to be beautiful," he said.
