CHICAGO, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- A third man was charged after he and two friends allegedly flooded parts of Chicago's Trump Tower after being cut off at a bar in the complex, police said.
Daniel Maradei, 24, was charged with felony criminal damage to property. His companions, Carl Koenemann, 25, and Benjamin Nitch, 25, were arrested Sunday, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.
The three were denied service Saturday at a 16th-floor bar in the 96-story condominium and hotel because they were allegedly intoxicated, and later flooded two elevators by releasing thousands of gallons of water from a sixth-floor emergency fire water main, police said.
The water valve, which pours about 250 gallons per minute, was left open for 10 minutes, prosecutors said, adding the elevators alone sustained $700,000 in damage.
The incident was recorded on the building's surveillance video.
Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said the water caused "extensive damage" to parts of the building.
Koenemann and Nitch initially blamed each other for the incident, but Nitch later allegedly admitted he opened the valve because he was angry for not being served at the bar, the Chicago Sun-Times said.
