Nationwide Industries recalls magnetic gate latches

WASHINGTON, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Nationwide Industries of Tampa, Fla., is recalling 2,500 magnetic latches used around pools due to latch failures that leave gates unsecured, regulators said.

The magnets on the latch assemblies can come loose, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

The latches were sold in 10 inch and 20 inch models in black or white. They are marked with the name "Trident."

There is also an image of a trident on the face of the latch.

The latch, generally attached to a fence post, consists of a knob and a key cylinder and a recessed area on the bottom portion designed to engage and retain the striker, which contains a magnet designed to hold the gate closed.

The latches were sold from February 2013 to October 2013 to professional fence contractors for between $50 and $60.

Consumers were advised to contact Nationwide Industries for a replacement striker kit that can be installed with a Philips head screwdriver.

Consumers can call 800-409-3901 for information..
