WASHINGTON, May 25 (UPI) -- Walmart Stores Inc., is recalling 255,000 General Electric food processors with safety systems that can fail, a U.S. consumer watchdog agency said.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the 14-cup food processors, model No. 169203, have safety interlock systems that can allow the appliance to work without a lid in place. This has resulted in 21 injuries to fingertips and numerous reports of overheating, including three incidents that involved fires.

The food processors were imported from China by the national retailer with headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., and sold nationwide from September 2009 through February 2011 for about $50.

Consumers were advised to stop using the food processors and return them to Walmart for a full refund.

Consumers can call 877-207-0923 for information.
