CUPERTINO, Calif., Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A pair of blogs dedicated to rumors about Apple products said the California company may have dropped clues about the iPad 2.

Apple Insider and MacRumors.com said a red-ribbon bookmark appearing in a January release of the iBooks app contains what may be a clue to the screen resolution of the iPad 2, which is expected to be officially announced March 2, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Speculation has surrounded whether the iPad 2 would feature a "retina" display, which is used by the iPhone 4 and is said to be the sharpest image possible for a human eye to detect, or a "pixel-double" display, which is slightly lower quality but would be easier for companies developing programs for the tablet computer.

MacRumors and Apple Insider said the iBooks bookmark appears to have been created for pixel-double resolution and contains artwork for a hypothetical pixel-double iPad labeled "iPadx2."

"The most likely explanation for this added graphic is plans for a double-resolution iPad," MacRumors said.
