P&G picks Cuban girl for Crest ad

CINCINNATI, March 29 (UPI) -- Procter & Gamble has picked a 5-year-old Cuban girl to promote Crest on the 50th anniversary of the toothpaste but will use the motto made famous in 1956.

The new find is Enya Martinez, who moved to the United States when she was 11 months old, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. An independent panel chose Enya from among about 3,000 candidates for her sparkling smile.

In selecting her, the Cincinnati-based company revisited its "Crest Kid" campaign illustrated by Norman Rockwell. That campaign appeared as a series of apple-cheeked urchins and used in advertising starting in 1956, the Journal reported.

While the kids haven't been tapped in recent years, their motto "Look, Mom -- no cavities!" -- still resonates, the report said.

A print ad featuring Enya, from Publicis Groupe's Saatchi & Saatchi, is slated to debut in the May 15 issue of Time Warner's People magazine, the Journal said.
