Simon and Garfunkel tour begins Oct. 18

NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel's first major concert tour since 1983 dubbed "Old Friends," will kick off Oct. 18 outside Detroit.

The tour will visit 30 markets and end in mid-December after kicking off at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

The duo will performing both acoustically and with a full backing band, which will include drummer Jim Keltner and guitarist Mark Stewart, who played on Simon's 2000 Warner Brothers album "You're the One," reported Billboard magazine.

"We'd like to stay as true to the spirit of the Simon & Garfunkel period and our work in the '60s and early '70s as we can," Simon said.

"If not note-for-note, then certainly we don't intend to re-imagine that work. We're going to try to capture it as it was and not alter it."

While most of the tunes will be from the duo's five albums, they will perform some songs from their solo careers.
