UCLA student arrested for breaking into Defense computer system

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2, 1983 (UPI) - A UCLA science student was arrested Wednesday for using his home computer to break into a multi-national Defense Department computer system, gaining access to some ''very sensitive'' information.
Wisconsin researchers try to clone cow
MADISON, Wis., March 3, 1997 (UPI) -- Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are trying to clone a cow, although the leader of the project says success is a long way off. Dr. Neal First said Monday the researchers have successfully created three embryos by fusing fetal skin cells, or ''donor'' cells, with unfertilized eggs. But the embryos' chances of survival are low and First said the work won't mean much unless one of them produces a cow.

Panel to Clinton: No clones -- for now
ARLINGTON, Va., June 7, 1997 (UPI) -- A presidential bioethics panel today calls for federal laws banning creation of babies through human cloning. In its final public session, the 18-member National Bioethics Advisory Commission unveiled a working draft of a report that recommends expanding the current moratorium on federal funding to include privately funded human cloning research.
Clinton asks Congress to ban human cloning
WASHINGTON, June 9, 1997 (UPI) -- President Clinton is urging Congress to ban human cloning, saying it reflects ''our humanity and it is the right thing to do.'' The president staged a Rose Garden ceremony today to publicly accept the findings of The National Bioethics Advisory Commission, which has unanimously recommended a new federal law banning creating human babies through cloning.
Families beg for human cloning, scientist says no
WASHINGTON, June 25, 1997 (UPI) -- The scientist who led the effort to clone sheep says two families so far have tried to persuade him to clone relatives, but he has said no. Dr. Ian Wilmut from the Roslin Institute outside Edinburgh told a news conference in Washington today that he remembers only two approaches from people who wanted him to try cloning specific humans.
