India attacked Pakistan by land and air today, claiming the capture of six towns in East Pakistan, launching heavy air raids on bases in West Pakistan and establishing an air and sea blockade to cut communications between the two parts of the country.

BOMBAY, India, Dec. 4, 1971 (UPI) - Sen. William B. Saxbe said today he believes that autonomy for East Pakistan could have been achieved if the fighting between India and Pakistan had been delayed another few weeks.Saxbe, who saw India's Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Pakistan's President A.M. Yahya Kahn during the past two weeks, expressed his discouragement at the outbreak of fighting between the two countries.

China today accused India of aggression and pledged its "resolute support" for Pakistan.

India recognized the Bangla Desh rebel government of East Pakistan today and reported its troops, with almost total air supremacy, were moving rapidly through East Pakistan in hopes of a quick victory.

KARACHI, Pakistan, Dec. 6, 1971 (UPI) -- Two days of intensive air raids by Indian warplanes over West Pakistani cities have killed at least 71 persons and wounded 215, government spokesmen said today.The Indian aircraft have "bombed and strafed civilian areas," the spokesmen said.
