NEW YORK, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Police arrested Sam Worthington in New York City on Sunday after he scuffled with photographer Sheng Li, who had allegedly kicked the Australian actor's rumored wife in an attempt to get pictures.

Sources told the New York Daily News that Li kicked Australian model Lara Bingle in the shins. Worthington retaliated by punching Li in the face.

“It happened at 5.30pm this evening," New York Police Department Lieutenant John Grimpel confirmed to the Daily Telegraph. "The photographer kicked Lara and then Worthington punched him causing the photographer to have lacerations to his nose."

The Telegraph also said that Worthington, 37, shouted, "you kicked my wife," seeming to confirm rumors that he had secretly married Bingle.

Bingle reportedly sustained a bruise to her leg, while Worthington was charged with assault. Li was charged with assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.

Worthington, who will star in three upcoming Avatar films, previously faced charges of disorderly conduct when he pushed an Atlanta doorman who deemed him too intoxicated to enter the restaurant. Those charges were later dismissed.
