Amanda Bynes pleads no contest to lesser offense in DUI case

HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- TMZ reports that Amanda Bynes has pleaded no contest to a lesser offense in her DUI case.

Bynes was charged in 2012 after an incident in which the troubled 27-year-old star sideswiped a police vehicle and allegedly attempted to flee the scene. She was charged with one count of misdemeanor DUI, and the DA sought a sentencing enhancement when the actress refused to take a breathalyzer or blood test. With the sentencing enhancement, it was possible that Bynes would face a minimum of 48 hours in jail with the possibility of six months if convicted.

Bynes has since pleaded no contest to "wet reckless", a drinking-related offense with less serious consequences. The actress will not serve jail time, but will be placed on probation for three years, attend a three-month alcohol education course and pay various fines. Her license was already suspended due to her refusal to take a breathalyzer test.

Her lawyer Rich Hutton tells TMZ that Bynes is doing well, a sentiment that fellow Bynes lawyer Bob Wilson mirrored in a recent interview.
