WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- According to a survey by Republican pollster Wenzel Strategies, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is facing a tight race against Democratic opponent and Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes.
The poll puts McConnell only one percentage point ahead of Grimes, with 43 percent saying they would vote for McConnell and 42 percent saying they would vote for Grimes. It is a Republican-backed poll and some other polls have Grimes in the lead, but it is going to be a tough race either way for McConnell.
McConnell has had a rough year with facing intense bipartisanship and managing the fallout from the government shutdown in October, the close calls with the debt ceiling, and failures in passing legislation such as gun control and immigration reform. It has left Kentucky voters disenchanted with the incumbent and puts his seat in a fair amount of danger come November.
