Grammys producer apologizes to Trent Reznor

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails performed the Grammys closing number with Queens of the Stone Age, Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham and Dave Grohl, only to find that their number was cut short because the telecast had run too long.

"Music's biggest night... to be disrespected," Reznor tweeted shortly after the show. "A heartfelt F**K YOU guys."

"I’m sorry he was upset," longtime Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich told the Hollywood Reporter. "I was really thrilled that we were finally getting him on the Grammys. The final jam started with Arcade Fire a few years ago, and LL Cool J last year."

"I want to end on a high, an up note. I did tell them we’d take it as long as we could," he added. "The number was about five, six minutes long, and we got to within a minute twenty of the end. We got as close as we could possibly get."

The New York Times notes that Reznor, an onstage perfectionist, is unlikely to be satisfied with the classification of his performance as a "jam." He has not tweeted since his "disrespected" comment.
