Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were the stars of Sunday night's Grammy Awards. In addition to taking home four trophies, the duo surprised attendees by performing their famous same sex marriage anthem "Same Love" while Queen Latifah officiated a mass wedding for couples of all races and sexual orientations from the stage.

What's more, after the song was coming to an end, Madonna came onstage to perform her classic "Open Your Heart."

As the music played, Latifah, who was sworn in as a temporary commissioner by the state of California, asked 33 couples to pronounce their vows, exchange rings and declared them married couples.

"I look forward to the day when presiding over a historic wedding ceremony like this is just the norm -- normal special, not extra, extra special," she said. "To me, it's special for all the couples who married today. And I look forward to dashing off to go sign marriage certificates. It's awesome."

The 43-year-old singer/songwriter explained she was approached about the ceremony "less than two weeks ago" and that she took the job "very seriously."

"The weight of it comes down, because it wouldn't matter if you're same-sex couples or heterosexual couples or interracial couples, it doesn't matter to me, this is someone's life committed to one another, and you want to make sure you do it right," she said. "That is what sunk in for me."

On Sunday, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were named the Best New Artist of 2013, received awards for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for "Thrift Shop" and won Best Rap Album for "The Heist."
