Lombardi is the grandson of Hall of Fame Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi. A contract with the new coordinator is expected to be finalized at some point on Tuesday morning.

New Orleans Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees has thrown for more than 5,000 yards in each of the last three seasons. Lombardi started working as the Saints’ quarterbacks coach in 2009. With Lombardi as his coach, Brees has completed 68.2 percent of his passes overall for 195 touchdowns and 78 interceptions.
The struggles of Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford were a big reason that Detroit lost late-season games in 2013 and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
