A Libyan Army colonel was shot to death yesterday in Benghazi, Libya, the latest in a series of attacks on security officials.
Colonel Saad al-Jamli was shot five times in the head outside of a school in Benghazi yesterday morning. His unidentified assailant escaped.
The colonel's murder is the latest in a series of attacks against security officials. Last Wednesday, Air Force officer Khaled Salah al-Hafar was abducted in Benghazi while driving to work around 8 a.m. His abductors blocked the streets surrounding his car, which was left abandoned.
Spokesman for the Benghazi Joint Security Room Ibrahim Shara told the Libya Herald that an investigation was underway and that Hafar may have been targeted because of his military association.
Earlier this month, American school teacher Ronald Thomas Smith II was killed in Benghazi, the Libyan city where Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed when the U.S. Consulate was attacked 15 months ago.
