Paul Walker's dad: 'Every now and then I'll really break down'

Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Paul Walker's father is remembering his son in a series of emotional interviews since the 40-year-old Fast and Furious star died Saturday in a car crash.

"I was proud of him every day of his life," a teary Paul Walker Sr., told CBS Los Angeles on Monday. “I’m just … glad, that every time I saw him, I told him I loved him. And he would say the same thing to me.”

Walker Sr. described the last several days as "really tough," and admitted that there are times when he's overcome with emotion.

"Every now and then I'll really break down. Talking really seems to help…there's just such a tremendous amount of stories," he told E! News. "I was just told that my son gave a marine a diamond ring to give to a gal he was going to marry. I never heard that story. He did stuff like that all the time."

Walker Sr. said he wanted his son, an avid outdoorsman and ocean conservationist, to be remembered as a laid-back person who loved the water.

"Visualize Paul standing on the beach with a surfboard in his arm, looking out to the ocean," he said. "I think he would like that image of himself. It's very very deep in his soul."

Walker Sr. also said that Walker's brothers, in particular, "are all taking it pretty hard."
