Tim Duncan divorce made official in private hearing

Nov. 23 (UPI) -- San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan divorced wife Amy at a secretive "home" visit by a judge at the player's lawyer's offices.

District Judge David A. Canales told the San Antonio Express-News he held the hearing during his lunch hour at the offices of lawyer Sue Hall at her request.

Several court experts said the move was highly unusual and was something not normally afforded members of the general public.

“I would say it's highly unusual, but I think it would be highly disruptive for them to come to court,” said attorney Jean Brown.

Canales said the former couple felt uncomfortable going to court because of the possibility of paparazzi.

“I don't see it as doing a special favor for the sake of a favor,” Canales said. “These folks were involved in a very private matter. It was mainly for privacy.”

Details of the divorce were not reported.

Tim and Amy Duncan began dating while attending Wake Forest University and were married July 21, 2001. The couple have a daughter and a son.

“The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities between petitioner and respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation,” both of their divorce petitions said.
