Hugh Jackman treated for skin cancer

Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Australian actor Hugh Jackman revealed he was treated for skin cancer after getting a mark on his nose checked on Thursday.

"Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right!" the actor captioned a photo of himself on Instagram. "I had a basal cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!"

Basal Cel Carcinoma (BCC) is the most frequently occurring form of skin cancer. They are abnormal lesions, often mistaken for sores or red patches, that arise in the skin's basal cells, which line the deepest layer of the epidermis.

Jackman did not specify if he had the lesion removed, or when he was diagnosed. He is best known for his recurring role as Wolverine in the X-Men blockbusters and was nominated for an Academy Award last year for his performance in Les Miserables.
