Casey Kasem conservatorship denied

Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A judge denied a request by Casey Kasem's children to grant them control over his affairs, ruling Tuesday there was a lack of convincing evidence the 81-year-old's health was not immediately at risk.

Kasem's three children with his first wife, Linda Myers, are feuding with his second wife, Jean, who they claim is preventing them from visiting their father.

The judge Tuesday ordered attorneys for both sides to come to an agreement so Kerri, Mike and Julie Kasem could visit their father, who is suffering from advanced Parkinson's disease.

Court papers filed in October said Jean Kasem, who married Casey Kasem in 1980, has "isolated [him] from his daughters, friends and other family."

Jean Kasem filed papers of her own Monday, beating back against the children's motion, saying no conservatorship was necessary.

“These children single-handedly and irreparably shattered the lives of their father, his wife and youngest daughter, the calm of their home and their neighborhood by engaging in uncalled for public demonstrations and personal attacks in the media,” her filing said. “These children falsely claim that their stepmother is wicked and is keeping her husband prisoner in his home behind closed doors and that they no longer have access to him through no fault of their own.”
