Minnesota marathon runner finishes two-hour training run, delivers her baby

By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

Trish Staine, of Duluth, Minn., had always doubted television programs where women give birth without knowing they were pregnant. But after giving birth to a baby girl after a two-hour training run for a half marathon, the new mom said she's "a believer."

According to the Duluth News Tribune, the 33-year-old had run up and down hills for two hours on Sunday when she started to feel stiffness and pain in her back and stomach.

On Monday, they took her to the hospital, where she gave birth to a 6-pound, 6-ounce baby girl, five weeks early.

"In the ER, they found a fetal heartbeat. I was like, no no no. There's no way I'm pregnant. But they rushed me up to the Birthing Center, and five minutes after I got into my room, she was born," Staine told WDIO.

"I didn't gain any weight. I had my period. I had no idea," Staine said.

Her husband, John, told the Tribune that his wife had no signs of pregnancy like she'd had with her two previous children.

“She didn’t gain any weight,” he said. “Her face was even thinner.”

The couple named the child Mira, short for "miracle."
