DuPage County, Ill., authorities found a pet peacock dead in his owner's garage while investigating another crime, according to the Daily Herald.

David Beckmann, 64, was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty after they found the peacock, Phyl, dead -- and determined that he had sexually abused the peacock.

Beckmann was booked on separate charges of battery and indecent solicitation of a child. Concerns arose about his communication with a child between the ages of 13 and 17, which led police to investigate at his home, when they found Phyl.

The police declined to comment on the animal abuse as it may be part of the case involving the minor.

Beckmann is held on $10,000 bond and will be arraigned June 12.
