Three new versions of the burger -- one with bacon and cheddar, one with lettuce tomato and onion, and one with habanero ranch sauce -- will be added to the fast food giant's menu starting in mid-June.
The new buns will have eight grams of whole grain, and bacon throughout the menu will be getting an upgrade.
"We've had some feedback from our consumer that our bacon may not have been as high quality or met their expectations but we just in the process of rolling out a new bacon system wide," Neil Golden, chief marketing officer of McDonald's USA told the Chicago Tribune.
"We feel like that bacon is a fabulous enhancement to many of our products."
The new thicker, apple wood smoked bacon will debut immediately.
The Oak Brook, Ill.,-based chain said it sees sales surges whenever it has revisited classic menu items in the past, such as the Big Mac or Chicken McNuggets, said spokeswoman Danya Proud.
But as new options get added, less popular choices will disappear from menus, including Chicken Selects, Angus Snack Wraps and Fruit and Walnut salads.
