Serena Williams responds to Stephens bashing comments

Serena Williams adressed Sloane Stephens's critical comments about her after winning the second round at the Madrid Open on Tuesday.

According to the New York Post, the 31-year old tennis player said she did not have many thoughts regarding Stephens's comments that the two had not spoken since the 20-year-old player beat Williams at the Australian Open.

“I don’t really know. I don’t have many thoughts. I’m a big Sloane Stephens fan and always have been," Williams said. "I’ve always said that I think she can be the best in the world. I’ll always continue to think that and always be rooting for her.

Earlier this week an ESPN interview of Stephens slamming her relationship with Williams made headlines. The 20-year-old said she wanted to let everyone know that Williams wasn't as friendly as people thought her to be adding that the former world number one tennis player had deleted her from Blackberry Messenger and Twitter after losing to her in Australia.

In response, Williams claimed she simply wished her the best.

“I really just always wish her, and anyone, really, especially from America, the best," she said. "We don’t have that many American players, so it’s always exciting to see so many young players doing so well."
