Anderson Cooper kissed Madonna at GLAAD Awards

While being honored at the New York edition of the GLAAD Media Awards on Sunday, Anderson Cooper manifested his excitement by inadvertently kissing Madonna.

Cooper was the recipient of this year's Vito Russo Award, which goes to a LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Cooper's prize was presented by no other than the material girl wearing a full-on boy scout outfit.

"I wanted to be a Boy Scout, but they wouldn't let me join," Madonna told the crowd. "I think that's [messed] up. I can build a fire. I know how to pitch a tent. I have a very good sense of direction. I can rescue kittens from trees. Listen, I wanna do for the community."

After giving an inspirational speech in which she asked to, "Love thy neighbor as thyself" and slammed the Boys Scouts Organization prompting them to "change their stupid rules," Madonna called the CNN anchor to the stage.

The two shared a long congratulatory hug followed by an impromptu peck.

"I just kissed Madonna," Cooper said, adding "It was a first, kissing a woman that is."

Cooper came out as a homosexual last year in an email to journalist Andrew Sullivan. During his acceptance speech the anchor thanked his boyfriend since 2009, Benjamin Maisani.

"[Being gay] has allowed me to love and be loved, to open my head and open my heart in ways I would have never predicted," he noted. "The ability to love one another, the ability to love another person is in my opinion one of God's greatest gifts and I thank God every day for the ability to give and share love with the people in my life. My family, my friends, my partner Benjamin, thank you very much."
