10 workers killed in building collapse

HEFEI, China, May 1 (UPI) -- Chinese officials say 10 construction workers were killed in the collapse of an under-construction building in Anhui Province in eastern China.

The three-story structure collapsed Friday afternoon, authorities said. The bodies of the 10 workers who were crushed to death were recovered Friday night, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported Saturday.

Most of the victims were relatives of an investor in the project, who was taken into police custody while the collapse was being investigated, Xinhua said.

The report said the project did not have the necessary permits and the workers were not properly qualified.
