NEW YORK, March 30 (UPI) -- Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign has unveiled its first ad to air ahead of New York's primary next month and it attacks Republican front-runner Donald Trump's divisiveness.
The ad never mentions Clinton's actual opponent in that primary, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. The ad does, however, make plain Clinton's strategy approaching her adopted home state primary -- she refers to the voters as "we" throughout the ad and touts the state's diversity, saying "we don't all look the same, we don't all sound the same, either," -- as a grocer speaks in Spanish to a customer.
Clinton has had her biggest success with the Democratic party's minority voters, a group that has handed her the front-runner status in the race, and who Sanders has struggled to win over in significant numbers.
The ad then pivots to Clinton's attack on Trump based on his controversial stands on race and religion.
"While some say we can solve America's problems by building walls, banning people based on their religion and turning against each other, well, this is New York and we know better," Clinton says, as the ad flashes grainy footage of a white Trump supporter sucker-punching a black protester at a rally.
Clinton represented the Empire State for eight years in the Senate. She and former President Bill Clinton live in Chappaqua, N.Y., upstate of New York City. The state's primary is April 19.
