Donald Trump breaks ground on $200 millon DC hotel

WASHINGTON, July 23 (UPI) -- Donald Trump was in Washington D.C. today to celebrate the ceremonial groundbreaking of the $200 million Trump International Hotel.

"We will produce one of the great hotels anywhere in the world in the most exciting location -- between Congress and the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue," Trump proudly proclaimed.

"I promise you this will be a truly great, not only hotel, but economic development project."

The new hotel is slated to bring the District $100 million in tax revenue over 10 years and add 300 permanent jobs.

But not all DC residents are excited about Trump's latest hotel. Members of labor union Unite Here Local 25 were on hand at the groundbreaking, passing out fliers headlined, "Donald Trump is constructing a palace for the rich and keeping District residents poor at the same time."

"We're not trying to stop economic development," Samuel A. Epps IV, political director for Unite Here Local 25, explained to DCist.

"We want a commitment from Mr. Trump ... to D.C. residents, D.C. workers that he will provide middle-class jobs for those individuals."
