COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- An Ohio school district has agreed to settle a lawsuit by a mother of a special-needs student who accused a teacher and an aide of bullying her daughter.
Fayette County school district has agreed to pay $300,000 in the case of the child whose ridicule by the teacher and aid was caught on tape, WBNS-TV, Columbus, Ohio, reported Tuesday.
The teacher, Christie J. Wilt, has been place on academic probation and the aide, Kelly L. Chaffins, has been forced to resign, WBNS-TV said.
Wilt's and Chaffins' remarks were made over a four-day period in April and captured on a tape recorder the 14-year-old student's mother had hidden on her daughter after hearing her complain about her treatment at school.
In one of the recordings, Chaffins can be heard asking the student why she said she didn't know the answer to a question.
"Because I didn't know," the student said.
"Are you kidding me?" the aide said. "Are you that damn dumb? You are that dumb? ... Oh, my God. You are such a liar."
"I am not lying," the student said.
"No wonder you don't have friends," Chaffins said. "No wonder nobody likes you."
On another occasion, Wilt and Chaffins can be heard teasing the student about her body.
