LIMA, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- The mother of missing U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway was in Peru Friday and spoke with the man suspected in her daughter's disappearance, a TV program reported.

The TV show reported that Beth Holloway spoke to Joran van der Sloot for about 5 minutes before he ended the meeting because his lawyer was absent.

Holloway and Dutch journalist Peter de Vries visited van der Sloot at Castro Castro prison, producers for de Vries indicated in a CNN report.

Van der Sloot is being held on a murder charge in the death of a Peruvian student.

De Vries, who is filming a documentary, accompanied Beth Holloway to Peru, the report said.

De Vries did not say specifically whether he and Holloway met van der Sloot. He said prison officials knew of the visit but denied they detained him and Holloway and confiscated his film crew's gear, CNN said.

Van der Sloot, a Dutch citizen, is charged in the death of Peruvian student Stephany Flores, whose body was found in May in a hotel room registered to him.

He also is charged with wire fraud and extortion in Alabama for allegedly trying to extort more than $250,000 from Holloway's family for information about the location of Natalee Holloway's body.

The teenager was last seen May 30, 2005, leaving an Oranjestad, Aruba, nightclub with van der Sloot and two other men. Van der Sloot was arrested twice in Aruba but never charged in the case.
