NORTHAMPTON, Pa., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A lawyer was shot dead Wednesday morning in the parking lot of his suburban Philadelphia office, a prosecutor said.
A man approached Eric Birnbaum, 51, from behind and fired once at close range, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. First Assistant Bucks County District Attorney David Zellis said the shooting occurred about 9 a.m.
Birnbaum worked at Terry D. Goldberg Associates, a small firm specializing in worker's compensation and personal injury, Zellis said. The firm has an office in a strip mall in Northampton.
A law firm employee who had just arrived in the lot and parked next to Birnbaum's black Acura said the shooter drove off in a blue van, Zellis said.
Police stopped a van matching that description in northeast Philadelphia and took a man, described as a "person of interest," into custody, BucksLocalNews.com said. The man was released after questioning, Zellis said.
