Dog behind deadly mauling put down

CHICAGO, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A Rottweiler blamed for fatally mauling a 4-year-old boy in Chicago during the weekend was euthanized Monday, an Animal Care and Control staff member says.

The unidentified staff member said in addition to the dog behind Sunday's deadly attack on the city's Southwest Side, two other dogs that had been living in the same house were also euthanized, the Chicago Tribune said.

Authorities said Alex Angulo was killed at his foster home by the Rottweiler, although investigators are unclear if any additional dogs took part in the fatal incident. No reason was reported for the attack.

The other dogs living in the home were another Rottweiler and a female poodle.

The incident is being investigated by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

The Tribune said Sunday's fatal attack came days after last Tuesday's mauling of two sisters, ages 5 and 10, by another Rottweiler in Joliet, Ill. Both girls survived the attack, but were forced to seek treatment for unspecified injuries.
