Poll: Many Britons doubt nativity story

LONDON, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Seventy percent of British residents who participated in a poll on faith said they don't believe the biblical story of the birth of Jesus.

The British Marketing Research Bureau said it found young people were the most skeptical, the BBC reported Saturday.

The poll of 1,000 people was commissioned by St. Helen's Church in Bishopsgate in London, the BBC reported.

More than 20 percent of the interviewees who described themselves as Christian said they don't believe the Christian tenet that Jesus was both God and man, the BBC reported, noting the survey indicates a fading influence of Christian teachings on a secular society.
