Turkish court to close pro-Kurdish party

ANKARA, Turkey, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- The chief prosecutor at Turkey's Supreme Court of Appeals filed suit Friday to abolish a pro-Kurdish political party amid tensions with Kurdish rebels.

Abdurrahman Yalcinkaya filed suit in constitutional court against the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, the New Anatolian reported Friday.

Several officials in Turkey accuse the party, known as the DTP, of having links to the militant Kurdistan Workers' Party.

Recent sentiments in Turkey pressured officials to remove parliamentary immunities for DTP ministers paving the way for later prosecution.

The move against the DTP comes amid increasingly tense relations between Ankara and Kurdish opposition groups in Iraq.
