Olmert, Abbas agree to West Bank meeting

JERUSALEM, April 15 (UPI) -- A discussion Sunday between Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas resulted in plans for a West Bank meeting.

While the talks between the two Mideast leaders in Jerusalem did not result in any significant breakthroughs, the Voice of America reported that the two leaders did agree to meet again in the West Bank.

Prior to Sunday's meeting, Olmert had said his discussion with the Palestinian Authority leader would be a continuation of those they had last month with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"We will discuss several issues," Olmert had said. "The Palestinian Authority's struggle against terrorism and, of course, the commitment that Abbas made to me about the unconditional release of kidnapped IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit. That is one thing that I won't drop and it won't be dropped from the agenda."

Aides to both leaders said that the Sunday meeting only represented a beginning of negotiations between the two sides and that the West Bank meeting would likely take place in the city of Jericho.
