NYC restaurant sues over strike

NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- A New York restaurant has filed a multi-million-dollar class-action lawsuit seeking compensation for lost business during the transit strike.

"I'm doing it for all the restaurant owners in New York City. Somebody has to do this," Vlada Von Shats, the manager of the lead plaintiff in the suit, Russian Samovar, told the New York Post. She said business was down about 70 percent during the strike.

The suit seeks to force the transit union, the transit authority and the city to pay the West 52nd Street restaurant $25,000 for each day the strike was on, as well as the creation of a $15 million fund to repay other eateries affected by the strike.

"It's not about the money," Von Shats said. "They hurt a lot of people, a lot of people who are trying to support their families."

The suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, blames the union, the transit authority and the city.
