Hamas, Arafat discuss Gaza

GAZA, July 22 (UPI) -- Hamas political leader Khaled Mash'al and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat Thursday discussed the deteriorating situation in Gaza.

Both Hamas and official Palestinian sources confirmed Mash'al telephoned both Arafat and Palestine Liberation Organization Secretary General Mahmoud Abbas.

Hamas sources said Mash'al voiced concerns about the current security situation in the territories during the two phone calls.

The sources said Mash'al voiced concerns over Palestinian unity and warned of serious repercussions if weapons are used against Palestinians.

Mash'al called for national talks to eliminate dissent and unite against Israel.
