LOS ANGELES, June 10 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was hospitalized Thursday after apparently being shot by a fellow deputy during a confrontation with a suspect.
Deputy Michael Arruda was struck in the head Wednesday night when he and three other deputies confronted an armed man at a motel in Hacienda Heights whose weapon turned out to be a BB gun.

The suspect in the incident was killed in the gunfire.
Arruda was hospitalized in critical condition while sheriff's investigators tried to figure out exactly what happened.
