DALLAS, March 10 (UPI) -- Veteran Rep. Ciro Rodriguez, D-Texas, won a narrow victory over challenger Henry Cuellar in the Texas primary, according to unofficial returns Wednesday.

Rodriguez, a four-term incumbent, won the Democratic nomination in the 28th District by only 151 votes, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

The final results were announced after a hand-count was completed in Zapata County. A spokesman for Cuellar told the newspaper that a recount might be requested.

In Houston, former Harris County Justice of the Peace Al Green defeated Rep. Chris Bell of Houston in Tuesday's primary. Green heads the NAACP chapter in Houston.

The 9th district was one of the districts created by the Republican-controlled Legislature to force incumbent white Democrats into minority districts.

In another of those districts, veteran Rep. Lloyd Doggett, a five-term incumbent, defeated former state Judge Leticia Hinojosa for the Democratic nomination in the 25th District.
