March 31 (UPI) -- There are many things that could be said regarding Colin Kaepernick and his style of play. But it might be his style of eating keeping him from signing with a new team.
According to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, teams aren't convinced Kaepernick is committed to football and "wonder about his vegan diet."
Kaepernick, 29, remains an unsigned free agent after posting a 1-10 record in 11 starts last season for the San Francisco 49ers. He completed 196-of-331 passes for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions in 12 appearances. He also rushed for 468 yards and two touchdowns on 69 carries. The six-year veteran is looking for "almost" $10 million annually, according to NFL Network. Pro Football Talk reported that claims that Kaepernick is requesting $9 or $10 million annually are "completely false."
According to Maiocco, the 49ers haven't contacted Kaepernick since Feb. 22.
Kaepernick opted out of the final year of his contract earlier this month. The quarterback is not the only NFL athlete with an alternative diet, stars like Tom Brady, Tyrann Mathieu, and Aaron Rodgers have also been public about their strict regimens for food consumption.
