Drew Brees plans to sling until he's 45-years-old

March 31 (UPI) -- Tom Brady isn't the only quarterback planning to play through his 40's.

New Orleans Saints superstar Drew Brees, who just turned 38, says he plans to play for seven more seasons. Brees is playing out the final year of his two-year extension and will make $13 million in 2017. The 10-time Pro Bowl selection and 2006 All-Pro led the NFL in passing yards for the seventh time in his 16-year career last season. His 471 completions and 673 attempts were also career highs.

"Taking it one year at a time, but I feel like I can play until I'm 45," Brees told SiriusXM NFL Radio. "It's a huge investment though."

Last month Brees told Good Morning Football that he had a "few more" seasons left in him.

"I got a few more at least," Brees said on Good Morning Football.

"When you first get into the league you think you're invincible, right? You think you're going to last forever. But I understand now, I'm just finishing my 16th season and I'm probably a little closer to the end than I am the beginning. So I just want to create a tremendous sense of urgency for every single year. I don't want to look any further past this year and what's right in front of us. Especially with what we've gone through over the last three years while watching other teams from the NFC South go to the Super Bowl."

"Carolina two years ago and Atlanta this year, that's good for those guys and their teams because they've earned it. But I'd like to see us back there and that's what I'm focused on."

The Saints haven't made the playoffs since 2013. Coach Sean Payton and the franchise have made no secret of their intentions to evaluate other options at the position.

Luke McCown and Chase Daniel currently sit behind Brees on the Saints' depth chart.
