Fantasy Football: Week 6 Quarterback Rankings

By Alex Butler

MIAMI, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Tom Brady's Week 5 return proved how important it is to have an elite quarterback in your fantasy football lineup.

There are several other elite options this week behind the New England Patriots gunslinger. You can also look forward to elite performances from lower tier quarterbacks in Week 6 that could mean the difference between winning and losing.

Below you will find my top 20 quarterbacks for Week 6 and brief descriptions of my favorite picks. You can also view my add/drops for the week and more positional rankings in the links provided.

TOP SHELF

Russell Wilson is my top quarterback for the week. The Seattle Seahawks stud is coming off of a bye week and gets a matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons are allowing the most fantasy points to quarterbacks and an NFL-high 14 touchdowns to the position. Wilson had a season-best 309 yards and three touchdowns in his Week 4 performance against the New York Jets. Arizona Cardinals' Carson Palmer is set to battle those same Jets on Monday Night Football. The Jets are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Look for Palmer to get back on track after sitting out his Week 5 matchup due to a concussion. Palmer has eclipsed 300 yards and thrown for three touchdowns only once this season.

SNEAKY PLAYS

Chicago Bears quarterback Brian Hoyer is absolutely on fire. Hoyer has passed for more than 300 yards and two touchdowns in three consecutive games. I like that trend to continue against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Blake Bortles is the quarterback on the other side of that matchup. I like Bortles as a fringe starter this week against the Bears. In Week 5, Andrew Luck torched that secondary for 322 yards and two scores.

LONGSHOTS

Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota obliterated the Miami Dolphins last week for three passing scores and a rushing touchdown. This week he faces a Cleveland Browns defense allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Alex Smith also has a great matchup against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are allowing the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in 2016. Look for the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has passed for more than 300 yards just once this season, also in a divisional matchup. Before the Chiefs' Week 4 bye, Smith had 287 yards and two touchdowns against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I expect Smith's third multi-touchdown performance Sunday in Oakland.
