MLB: Tampa Bay 3, Baltimore 1

Sept. 22, 2013 at 6:03 PM   |   Comments

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- David DeJesus smacked a solo homer Sunday and the Tampa Bay Rays kept pace in the American League wild-card race with a 3-1 victory over Baltimore.

James Loney and Matt Joyce also drove in one run each for the Rays, who took a third straight from the Orioles and maintained a half-game lead over Cleveland for the first AL wild-card spot.

Brandon Gomes (3-1) was credited with the win after emergency starter Enny Romero -- making his major-league debut -- gave up a hit and four walks over 4 2/3 innings.

Romero was called into service after scheduled starter Jeremy Hellickson was scratched due to pitching in Friday's 18-inning win over Baltimore.

O's starter Scott Feldman (5-5) was tagged for three runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Matt Wieters got Baltimore's only RBI.
