MLB: Philadelphia 5, Colorado 4

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- John Mayberry pounded a three-run homer to back Ethan Martin's 6 1/3 strong innings Monday in the Philadelphia Phillies' 5-4 defeat of Colorado.

Chase Utley and Domonic Brown each singled and Darin Ruf drew a walk from Rockies starter Jeff Manship leading off the fourth, loading the bases, and Cody Asche followed with an RBI single to break a scoreless tie.

Mayberry then came to the plate and belted a 2-1 pitch into the left field seats for a 4-0 lead.

Martin (2-2) held the Rockies to two runs on four hits, walking two and fanning six in his fourth major-league start.

Colorado struck for two runs off Phillies reliever Luis Garcia, but Jonathan Papelbon closed the door for his 21st save as Philadelphia took the opener of a four-game series.

Manship (0-3) was touched for five runs on six hits in a five-inning effort.

Troy Tulowitzki homered and Wilin Rosario drove in two runs for the Rockies.
