TORONTO, July 13 (UPI) -- Scott Dixon outpaced Sebastien Bourdais in a two-lap sprint to the finish Saturday, claiming the first race of a weekend IndyCar double-header in Toronto.
The shootout was necessitated when an accident involving Alex Tagliani brought out the caution flags. Shortly after the restart, Dixon got past Bourdais and finished 1.7 seconds ahead of him for his second IndyCar victory in six days.
Dixon also won Sunday's event Pocono Raceway -- his first victory of the season.
The result gave him his 31st career title, putting him in a tie with Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Dario Franchitti, Paul Tracy and Bourdais for seventh on the all-time Indy car race winners list.
Dixon's triumph also came hours after he won the pole position for Sunday's competition.
Bourdais' second-place finish was his first at an IndyCar-sanctioned event.
Franchitti finished third while Marco Andretti and Tony Kanaan rounded out the Top 5.
Helio Castroneves widened his points lead over defending series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay to 39 with a sixth-place showing.
