NHL: Washington 2, N.Y. Rangers 1 (OT)

WASHINGTON, May 10 (UPI) -- Mike Ribeiro scored 9:24 into overtime Friday to give Washington a pivotal 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers.

Washington took a 3-2 advantage in the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series and will try to advance in the playoffs on Sunday when the Rangers host Game 6. The home team has won every game in the series thus far with the last four all having been decided by one goal.

Brian Boyle gave New York the lead just 53 seconds into the game, but the Rangers could not put another shot past Braden Holtby during the remaining 68:29.

Joel Ward tied it on a power-play goal 7:44 into the second, his first of the playoffs.

Holtby stopped 24 shots while Henrik Lundqvist saved 33-of-35 shots. Nine of the Washington shots were taken by Alex Ovechkin, who was held without a point for the third straight game.
